Overview  

The Battery Projects Implementation Manager will lead the execution of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for EUNICE. This role requires extensive technical and project management expertise to oversee the lifecycle of BESS projects from initial design to commissioning, focusing on high-performance standards and operational excellence. The successful candidate will manage and coordinate cross-functional teams, vendors, and subcontractors to deliver large-scale energy storage projects, including grid-scale lithium-ion batteries and energy management systems for the Ptolemaida and other strategic BESS initiatives of EUNICE. 

Responsibilities 

  • Project Leadership:
    Oversee all aspects of BESS project implementation, ensuring delivery within budget, schedule, and scope parameters. Direct the work of project engineers, technicians, and cross-functional team members, coordinating across departments and managing external contractors. 
  • Technical Oversight:
    Lead technical design reviews, project scope definitions, and performance assessments for lithium-ion, flow, and advanced battery technologies. Ensure adherence to high technical standards, conducting feasibility assessments and thermal system optimizations, especially for cooling systems and civil engineering integration. 
  • Planning and Scheduling:
    Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, milestones, and critical path analyses. Proactively identify and mitigate project risks, coordinating with stakeholders to minimize delays and ensure on-schedule project completion. 
  • Budget Management:
    Prepare, track, and report on project budgets, managing cost variances and procurement needs. Collaborate closely with the procurement team to optimize material sourcing, negotiating contracts to ensure high-quality, cost-effective supplies and services. 
  • Regulatory and Compliance Management:
    Ensure all projects adhere to local and EU energy storage regulations and standards. Manage project documentation and regulatory compliance, interfacing with relevant authorities as necessary. 
  • Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination:
    Establish and maintain strong relationships with equipment suppliers, contractors, and utility providers. Lead contract negotiations and oversee vendor performance to ensure alignment with project requirements. 
  • Performance Analysis and Reporting:
    Conduct and oversee system performance evaluations, ensuring all deliverables meet technical and operational requirements. Compile and present project status reports, performance metrics, and risk assessments to the executive team and relevant stakeholders. 
  • Commissioning and Handover:
    Supervise final commissioning, including testing and validation of system performance. Develop and lead training sessions for internal teams on system operations and maintenance, ensuring smooth handover to operations. 

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). 
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in large-scale energy storage, renewable energy, or grid infrastructure projects, with at least 3 years in a project management role. Specific experience in BESS projects, particularly with lithium-ion technology, thermal management, and grid integration, is highly preferred. Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification is a plus. 
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of BESS technologies, including battery design, thermal management, and lifecycle optimization. Familiarity with energy management software and SCADA systems. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, MATLAB). Understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements in the EU energy market. Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and large budgets, with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget. 
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to stakeholders at all levels.

Work Conditions 

  • Work Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week. Flexibility in working hours may be required. 
  • Contract Type: Permanent contract with a 6-month probation period. 
  • Location: Attiki 
  • Work Environment: Office-based with on-site project visits as needed. 
  • Remote Work: Hybrid workplace model, 1 day remote work per week
