The Energy Community of Karditsa extends its biofuel programme to more schools and public buildings in the region
The highly successful cooperation between Eunice Energy Group and the Energy Community of Karditsa (ESEK) in the field of providing exclusively 100% green energy through the Group’s subsidiary, WeEnergy, is the foundation stone for the expansion of the program to cover heating needs of schools and public buildings in the prefecture of Karditsa, using clean energy only.
ESEK proceeded with the pilot installation of a 35kW boiler and pellet burner in the kindergarten of Kallifonios Karditsa, with the perspective of extending the action to other schools and public buildings in Karditsa prefecture. The installation “matched” perfectly with the already existing conventional heating system of the school. The new system includes a recording system (fuel consumption measurement, etc.), an online system through which the boiler is controlled remotely, as well as the regulation of parameters for its optimal operation. The pellets are produced in ESEK’s facilities using wood and coffee residues as raw materials, in cooperation with farmers, industries and the local government, using 100% green energy supplied by We Energy. The program aims to reduce the region’s energy dependence on polluting fossil fuels and to combat energy poverty, whilst strengthening the green transition towards energy democracy with the use of local resources such as residual biomass, which until recently remained unused. This original and pioneering project for Greece aims to reinforce the message of circular economy and energy autonomy of communities and citizens.
ESEK is holder of We Energy’s ‛Green Seal’ which certifies that the holder uses electricity produced exclusively from Renewable Energy Sources, with the ‛seal’ of the Renewable Energy Sources & Guarantees of Origin Operator (DAPEEP).

The Energy Community of Karditsa is an initiative of citizens and professionals of the region to exploit local resources and produce energy (thermal and electric). It was founded in 2010 with the aim of promoting renewable energy sources at local level. Almost 400 members are now involved in the project, including citizens, small and medium-sized enterprises, and municipal authorities.
